San Diego & Mexico (weeks 23 & 24)

I've started writing this blog when I had a few spare minutes on vacation so that I can remember everything. Overall great experience, but we did have a few bumps.

It all started Friday morning when DH decided to check in for our flight (24 hours in advance). There were problems with our reference number as we did change the flight about 3 weeks ago, but it was showing the old flight and DH spent 4 hours on the phone with the airline and the company through which we ordered the tickets. Finally, by noon the problem was resolved, but I was pissed. On top of it, my boss was really stressed out as we had lots to finish and he wanted to go home at a decent time on Friday, and to tell you the truth, I told myself that I'll probably be there until midnight, so leaving at the same time as I leave every day (although late for Friday) was a bonus. When DH picked me up from the train we decided to go out to eat as there was nothing in our fridge, then we went to a grocery store to pick up some food for the flight (the smartest move ever) and finished packing. By the time everything was said and done it was 1 a.m. and my BIL was picking us up at 4:45 a.m.

The ride to the airport was a bit stressful as the road work closed the exit to the airport and we had to do a little detour. We still made it on time. The only bad thing was that when we declared that we are taking food to US the customs guy asked us what it was. I washed a few of my favourite apples, and they took them!!! They said that they would only let them pass if they had stickers "made in USA", and those didn't have such stickers and they were actually Ontario grown. The fact that we would eat them on the plane and that I am pregnant and need my vitamins didn't sway the customs guy. Oh well... We had seats in the isle, for which I was grateful as during the 5 hour flight I got up to pee about 7 times. I don't think the baby enjoyed flying that much as he was pushing on my bladder most of the time. The layover was in San Francisco and the weather was wonderful - warm and sunny. During the flight to San Diego we had a window and a middle seat, but the flight was very turbulent so I could only get up once in between the pilot switching the seat belt sign off and on again. Once we were at the airport we got free wi fi so both DH and I called our families to let them know that we arrived and that everything was good. Boy were we wrong. When we got to the baggage pick up area we got a text that our friends just landed. We waited for our luggage and got DH bag off the belt and continued waiting for mine. When there was only one lonely bag going around and around on the belt and no more people waiting we figured that something was not right. I was freaking out. ALL my clothes were there, my maternity clothes!!! It took a while to log the complaint and figure out that my bag is actually on the next plain, so our choice was to either wait in the airport for 2.5 hours or have my suitcase shipped to the hotel. When we met our friends we decided that we are not going to be doing much which would require me to change (as I was in sweat pants). The weather in San Diego was completely opposite to San Francisco- the rain was pouring hard, but since we didn't want to lose any time we decided to stick to our itinerary.

After we checked into the hotel and got the adjoining rooms with our friends, we took a taxi to Seaport Village which would have been wonderful if not for the rain, so we finally just went to one of the restaurants there. We decided to go to a mall thereafter and wait out the rain there. It was getting late so we wondered the streets a bit and then took a taxi to our hotel. I was expecting my bag to be in the room, but it wasn't, so DH started working the phones. By that time it was already 8 p.m. which with the time difference of 3 hours was like 11 p.m. plus with me sleeping only 3 hours the night before, I was exhausted. We were promised that the bag would arrive no later than 9-9:30 and all I could do is to lay on a bed waiting for it, as DH went to our friends room for some guy fun. Close to 9 p.m. when the bag still didn't arrive, DH took pity on me and called the front desk. They said that the bag is there but they are waiting for the bell boy, to which DH said that he is going to just get it himself. Once the bag was in the room I could finally go to sleep.

Being pregnant and sleeping without my body pillow was a bit tricky and I still had to get up at least 2 times to pee. We were up early as we had to have breakfast at the hotel and then go with a tour which was picking us up just before 8 a.m. The tour was nice, there were not that many people and the tour guy was funny. We saw a few places some of which we decided to go back to the next day. At the end of the tour we asked our tour guy to drop us off at the restaurant that my friend found in one of the guide books. It was a popular restaurant and the wait was over 1.5 hours. Well we were all starving so we just wondered the street looking for a place to eat. We stopped at the Mexican restaurant and even though I can't eat spicy food, I found the dishes that were tolerable. Thereafter the plan was to visit Balboa park and we started walking in the direction of the park and looking to find the taxi. The first taxi passed us when we were almost at the park, and the taxi driver didn't even see us as he was texting on his cell phone. Anyways, we found the park ourselves and walked around a lot. The gardens were beautiful and we took tons of pictures. As it was getting dark and cold we stopped by a cafe and stayed there for a while enjoying hot drinks. We decided to start walking and catch the taxi on our way so that we can get to the hotel. As we walked, we figured that we were going downhill and that it was turning out to be a pretty nice evening so we walked to a gaslight district close to downtown Sand Diego and stopped for some desert there, and then took a taxi to our hotel. We did so much walking that day that all I could think about is getting into a made up bad as the night before I was struggling with all the blankets and sheets they had. When I opened the door I saw that the room was not cleaned, and I almost lost it. As I was calling the front desk I was on the verge of being hysterical (from both being extremely exhausted and from all the pregnancy hormones). Apparently the clerk put us on their green choice program which we specifically refused, and after asking the hotel person what they can do for us to compensate, she replied we can use the coupons that we got, I did lose it as we didn't get anything! She assured me that she is sending fresh towels and supplies and that we would get all the coupons for our entire stay and that the next day the room will be cleaned. So again, I was on my bed waiting for something to be delivered. The towels were sent right away, and then 15 min later I noticed an envelope next to the front door, those were the coupons. So I could finally go to sleep.

On Monday we had a plan to rent a car. We took a shuttle back to the airport and the guys figured out the place where they want to rent the car from. We decided to go for breakfast at the same restaurant where we couldn't get lunch the day before. It was after 11 a.m and we were all starving. There was still a line up but not as long as the day before. We were told the wait for 30 min, but some people in the line told us that the wait is much less than that, and it was not more than 10 min in which our boys managed to go exploring and we had to call them and tell them to get back asap as they would not seat us without them. The portions were HUGE, the food was great and the prices were even better. After we were done with breakfast we drove to Coronado and walked around there for a while, along the beach and a bit into the town. We went by the hotel where one of my favourite movies "Some Like it Hot" was filmed. Thereafter we drove to La Jolla and walked along the coast there looking at sea lions. The weather took a turn for the worse as when we approached La Jolla the sky was covered with clouds and the wind was very cold. I was happy that this time around I had my warm sports jacket with me, as I was wearing a t-shirt and a light cardigan. We decided to return closer to Downtown San Diego for Dinner and found a seafood restaurant not far from Seaport village. The food there was also great and DH and I decide that we are going to return to the same restaurant on our stop over at San Diego on the way back. As the night was still young we decided to go for a desert at a different restaurant and drove to a bakery in a different part of the town. After returning the car we got a shuttle to our hotel where we started packing as we were leaving next morning. And by the way, the room was all clean.

The next day (Tuesday) we had breakfast at the hotel (and used our coupons) before heading to the airport. We said good bye to San Diego and were off to Mexico. We stayed at Barcelo in Los Cabos, and the hotel and amenities exceeded our expectations. The rooms were nice and modern. There was a smart room technology which meant that we could control everything (air conditioner, lights etc.) from the TV. I also found that you can close curtains from either the switch next to the bed or from TV and after playing with it a few times I broke it (they did fix it the next day when I called it in). The only downside was that the water in the pools was very called and in 7 days that we were there we only ended up swimming in the pool two days. There was a black flag on the beach which meant that it is not safe for swimming, but we actually got into the ocean every day. The waives where huge (the way I like them) and if I wasn't pregnant I would spend more time in the water and further away from the shore. My friend was afraid so we stayed where the water was just above our knees and not deeper than our butts. At one point I was hit a bit harder by the huge waive which actually made my two piece bathing suit go different ways (the top one went up and the bottom one went down), but I did manage to pull it all back together before getting out of the ocean, so no harm down. Only on the last day DH didn't let me get in more than ankle deep, as the waves were crazy huge and even he had difficulty to maintain control.

Overall we had a great experience. Our regular day would start at around 8:30 a.m. we would go to have breakfast and then to our room to get ready for the sun. Depending on our moods me and my friend either stayed by the pool in semi shade or went to the beach where we had to move lounge chairs to be in the shadow of a palm tree as I don't really like being in the sun for too long. We would chat or read and than go into the water (most of the time the ocean). One day when the weather was extra hot, we managed to get a nice swim in the pool and even did aqua aerobics. Most other days the water was too cold to stay in the pool for any period of time. We would have lunch at around 2 - 2:30 and head back to the beach. In the first two days we took nice 1 hour long walks on the beach (each day to the different direction). One day after lunch we want to a small town which was near by (10 min cab ride). It was very small and there were barely any people there. Our boys went diving on Saturday and discovered another town (on another side of the resort) about 35-40 min away. They loved it and wanted to return there. So Monday after lunch we took a taxi and went there on our own. I have to say that we all felt very safe in this part of Mexico. When we were looking at the tours from the resort we were offered a cruise to see the famous arch. The tour was a bit expensive and we couldn't decided if we wanted to take it. So when we were at the town, there were water taxis so the guys negotiated a price for a boat to take us to see the arch (the price for 4 of us was cheaper then what the resort wanted per person). Our captain turned out to be a great guide, showing us a lot of attractions and making tons of pictures of us (he got a good tip afterwords), but because we were stopping a lot I started to feel like I am going to be feeding fish very very soon. I told my friend that I am not feeling good, and luckily she had sea sickness pills that her OBGYN approved. It did help and there were no accidents. Although I was really happy to be on the solid ground when we were done. :) That town turned out to be a nice vibrant town with lots of shops, cafes, restaurants etc. We walked the streets until it was getting dark and took a taxi back to the hotel.

The funny part was that when the guys were making arrangements for their dive, my friend and I sat down at a nearby desk and started talking to a clerk there. She turned out to also be pregnant, also 5 months and also with a boy!!! She told us that the food on the resort was safe as she eats on the resort herself. The food was good and I was only disappointed once when we had dinner at the buffet and the theme was Mexican - the only thing I could eat was some tomatoes and corn, and I asked the server to wash a sweet pepper for me (which was part of decoration).

My only problem was sleep. I couldn't adjust to the time difference, which was 3 hours in San Diego and 2 hours in Mexico. By 10 p.m. I would be falling a sleep, but then I was waking up a lot during the night as the beds were too soft and I couldn't make myself comfortable without my body pillow. I was sleeping with one pillow in between my knees, one pillow on each of the sides and one pillow for my head. I was also waking up at least twice to pee and usually was up around 7 a.m. Once I got home the sleep did improve some what.

I did have a little scare in Mexico, as one day when I was getting ready to take a shower and was naked when I felt a drop or two of liquid streaming down my thigh (on the inside). I freaked out a bit and tried to remember what I did just before to justify it. I did pee before and then washed my hands so that could have been water from when I washed my hands or may be I didn't wipe myself properly. I did manage to calm myself as there was nothing much I could do there. Something similar happened again in San Diego on our way back, so I am definitely mentioning this to my doctor when I see him next Wednesday.

The most exciting thing pregnancy wise happened on our last day in Mexico. DH went to swim in the ocean and our friends were in their room changing (since we didn't have much time until we had to leave, I wore my bathing suit to breakfast so didn't need to change). So I was laying on a lounge chair when I felt the baby kicking, then I looked down on my tummy and I saw it wobbling. Yep, I could see the baby kicking from the outside. I jumped up excited, but there was no one to share the news with. So disappointing...

On the way home from Mexico we had an overnight stay in San Diego. We checked into our hotel and decided to continue exploring our surroundings. The weather was a bit on a chilly side, but still much warmer than in TO. We went to Horton mall and then walked through Seaport Village to the fish restaurant where we had dinner before. This time around we changed what we ordered and the food was still good. We walked more through the Seaport Village (even though all little stores were already closed) and then decided to go to a supermarket for a desert and some food for the flight home. We ended up eating our desert in our room before going to sleep.

The next morning I woke up at 6 a.m. (as it was 7 a.m. in Mexico). I was still in bed when I heard my cellphone ring. I let it ring before getting up to go to the washroom and check who it was. It was the office. I knew exactly why. I did notice that my boss put in the wrong date for my arrival in his calendar, but since I gave him the right dates in writing I really didn't care. So I texted my clerk and asked her if any thing is wrong and they need my help to which she replied confirming that my boss was furious that I wasn't at the office... oh well... We had breakfast at a little cafe that DH found on the internet as one of the top 10 and we were a bit disappointed as it wasn't anything special. We then walked through Seaport Village again, this time stopping at the little shops and enjoying the rustic beauty, and then walked along the waterfront for almost 2 hours until it was time to get a taxi to the airport.

The flight was pretty uneventful and our bags were amount the first 10-15 on the belt. My BIL picked us up and SIL ordered some food. I wasn't hungry but we had absolutely no food in the fridge. We had to stop over BIL & SIL's house as DH wanted to say hi to his mom, so I got in to say hi to my SIL. We ended up staying there for about an hour eating some food and just talking in general, so didn't get home until 10:30 p.m.

As expected, work was crazy busy on Thursday, when we hit the 25 week mark, but that's the topic for the next post.

21 and 22 weeks

Well, today we are actually crossing into week 23, but I have been one busy bee lately so I let my blogging slide and this is going to be one long post.

I guess I should start with our OBGYN apt at 21w1d. As always it was quick, efficient and straight to the point. The doc quickly reviewed our ISP/NT results that were very good with a chance of down 1 in 20,0000 (which is the lowest that our hospital gives). The anatomy scan results were also in, and it did say "male" at the beginning of the report. The doc also told me that my blood work was good, including my iron level (I did have some problems with iron a few years ago). We've heard the heart beat again and the doc said that it was good too. He was measuring my uterus and it was about 10 cm or so above the belly button!!! (to tell you the truth, now at almost 23 weeks, I can feel the baby all over the place and both my upper and lower stomachs are very hard). We talked a bit about the flu shot and he was very adamant that we get it (we were swaying towards it anyways), he cautioned us that a flu complication can kill both me and the baby. We also asked him about our vacation in Mexico and his suggestions were to drink only bottled water and refrain from salads. I also talked to him about sleeping and I gravitate toward my stomach and wake up nauseous, he said to try to avoid sleeping on the stomach and it is better if I sleep on the side but need to lean in some direction, that I partially lean on my back. Next appointment in 4 weeks (which is exactly the week we are coming back). We also scheduled an apt for December in another 4 weeks as his morning started to fill in quickly (ugh...).

That Friday was also a girls night out. My sis picked me up as well as my SIL and another mutual friend (all three of them have 2 kids of roughly the same age). We went to a restaurant/lounge and had some fun. We were celebrating my pregnancy, and friend's finishing b/f and since she didn't drink for the last 4 years (having one kid, then b/f, then having another, then b/f again) she got a bit tipsy. I drove home as I was the only one who didn't drink that time. It was so nice to get out and talk mostly about kids :)

On Saturday, I went to my yoga class as always, and then DH & I ran some errands. In the evening we went to my parents' house as we were babysitting my brother. He was good. ME and him played some Wii while DH picked up some food for us. My brother managed to eat all of his oatmeal plus meat and rice that DH bought (he is 13 and his body is growing I guess). My brother was so cute, when I ask him where the baby is - he pats my tummy. I really love my brother as he is also my baby (I was 18 and a half when he was born and we were very close). I helped him brush his teeth and put his pj on and wished him goodnight, and then when I came up in about 10 minutes he was not sleeping yet, so I just sat next to his bed a bit. My brother is autistic so he need much more help than a regular 13 year old. As I was sitting in the dark in his room, I realized that I can do it, I can be a mom to a baby boy, and my baby would love me as much (if not more) than my brother.

I took Sunday off and I think I am getting some of the nesting instinct, as I went through the second bathroom (which is right across the baby's room and will be his bathroom) and threw out and recycled tons and tons of plastic bottles from all the shampoos, conditioners, creams and other cosmetics that I haven't been using for ages. DH was working on his computer and I was begging him to go for a walk, but then my sis called and invited me to come with her to parents' place so we can all go for a walk there. So off I went with my sis together with her kids as well as my mom and my brother. It was a nice 3 km walk, and I wish I could do it much more often.

On Monday was Halloween, and I was lucky that my boss disappeared from the office at around 3 p.m. I took an early train and was at home around 6 p.m. It was still light outside but kids already started to trick or treat. DH & I quickly had a bite to eat before my parents came over with my brother. I've been taking my brother trick or treating since he was 2 years old - every year, so that's our little tradition :). As we were getting ready to leave, we had about 10 kids come to our door to get candy. Our neighbourhood had soooo many kids out and we've met EVERYBODY! I have never seen so many kids and people on the streets. I guess the weather being not too cold contributed to that. We met up with my sis and her family as well as with my SIL and her family and tons of other friends. I got bunny ears with lights from my BIL (who worked a night club the night before and had all the trinkets). We mostly ended up walking either by ourselves or with my sis and my niece as others were taking too long talking to the vast amount of friends and acquaintances that we were meeting. There were so many kids that a few houses we visited ran out of candy. One guy told me that he went through 10 boxes of candy just giving out one candy per kid. I tried to take it easy and did not go up to all the doors with my brother, although I do worry as he can be a bit unpredictable (like actually going into people's houses), so I had to stay close anyways. By the end of about 2 hours of walking and trick or treating I was DONE. I had to stop a few times to bend over, which helps me feel better (I guess it releases pressure from somewhere). I wanted to show my parents a cool house in our neighbourhood, but by that time I was too exhausted to walk, so we got our car and just drove there and back. DH made some food for my parents, and I went through and sorted all the candy that my brother got (I also do it every year, LOL). Well I did eat some of it (he doesn't mind), but most of them went home with my brother.

On Tuesday my mom had a minor surgery. I talked to both her and dad before and then my sis called me and said that she left work early so she can stay with mom at the hospital since she is there all alone (which was a total BS as mom did not want anyone there and dad was picking her up). Of course, about 10 min after she called, my dad called that the doctor told him that it is ok to pick mom up, and then mom called herself. By the time my sis came, mom was already home. So then, mom called me and asked me if we would come over, and I couldn't say no. So I after work I went to my parents' house as opposed to going home. I enjoy spending time with my parents, but being a mid week night, by the time we got home, I was exhausted as it was very late.

I guess spending so much time withe my family and kids in general resulted in me really wanting my baby. I had very vivid dreams about my baby AFTER he was born, not the labour and delivery part, and when I woke up I had a real longing for him. I cannot imagine that I can love and long for someone who I've never even met. It is a new feeling to me. Till this day every time I see my growing belly in the mirror, I remind myself that YES it is actually happening to ME. We ARE having a baby in short 4 months. We've been on this road for such a long time that it is still hard to believe.

Thursday (22 weeks) started like a normal day until I got to the train and sat down. I felt sharp pains in my tummy and around, so I though that may be the baby is not comfortable (he is known for that- wants his space - just like his daddy), so I unzipped my jacket and that didn't help one bit. I had sharp pains all day and after doing some research on google I found out that those were probably still round ligament pains - and they were a common occurrence even at 22 weeks. Who knew??? Luckily the pain subsided on Friday, so I am thinking that the baby was going through a growth spur, and I am happy with that.

Last Friday I had lots of plans for what to do after work, but first decided to stop by my parents' place to pick up some dresses for the beach. Well my dad's friend showed up and needed help with his computer so we pretty much stayed at my parents until well into the night.

DH and I were both busy bees on Saturday. I had my yoga class and sugaring (Brazilian)right after (at a different place of course). I stopped by the house to have breakfast (at 1 p.m.) and had to rush out to go to a pedicure. The weather was so good that i decided to walk (it's only about 40 min walk). It was nice, but I had to stop a few times to bend over when I wasn't feeling to good. When I got to the place I saw my sis there. It was a surprise as I chatted with her in the morning and asked what her plans were and she said she didn't have any, but then when her kids went for an afternoon nap she called the place and they had an opening. So we had a nice time together catching up. Since I stopped taking an early train with her we don't interact as much. She also dropped me off at my house.

On Friday, I spent a great deal on the computer researching - I found out that there will be a flu clinic not far away on Saturday, found out what vaccine they offer and did research regarding those vaccines, including manufacturing documentation and information from various FDA applications. By the time I got home on Saturday after a pedi we only had less than an hour until the clinic would be closing. As I had a very heated discussion about this with my sis and SIL, I told DH not to tell anyone, and felt a bit bad sneaking around to get the shot. Once we got to the clinic (which was in the middle of the mall), I was still hesitating a bit if we are making the right decision, and then I saw how many infants they had there and decided that it was a right one. I did my research, I knew what I was doing, and it was my decision based on facts rather than somebody else's based mostly on emotional don't do it!

We stopped by at a store to buy a gift certificate for a friend (who I actually distanced myself from - or was it mutual? but that's a long story and not for this post). We headed downtown to a nice restaurant to celebrate her birthday. The food was good and we stayed there pretty late. Of course, during the course of the dinner I had to get up 5 or 6 times to go peel (but as everyone drank alcohol, I just jugged water, so that might have been the reason).

On Sunday, we had breakfast at my SIL's house with MIL cooking, and then I headed out to the office. DH was amazing. I did some research regarding sunscreens and chose a few natural brands. As I knew that I would not have any time to stop by a health food store, I forwarded to him my research and he got me two bottle - SPF 15 and SPF 30, although they were a bit pricey.

I was hoping to start packing on Monday, but it turned out to be a 13 hour day at the office. So, on Tuesday, I asked DH to get the suitcases upstairs into our bedroom so that I can start putting some clothes in them. Well, it is now Thursday, and mine has only 2 things in it. So as soon as I finish writing this blog, I am off to trying on clothes to take with us.

Some general observations for weeks 21 and 22:

- I still sneeze a lot during the day and occasionally have a runny nose;
- My bbs hurt and my nipples are extremely sensitive;
- I constantly feel pressure in my tummy and a lot of stretching pains and aches;
- It is getting hard to bend over to take off or put on my shoes, or pick something from the floor, it is also getting harder to getting up from sitting position;
- I think I feel the weight of my baby and he is getting heavier;
- I gained about 3 kg (and a bit upset by that) as it is not all baby, but my inability to get exercise into my daily routine and finishing up Halloween candy;
- the sleep has been awful. I've been sleeping in little increments waking up constantly to turn or to go pee. Even before I got pregnant I was sleeping with a body pillow. I basically just lean on it as opposed to sleeping directly on my stomach, but lately since my tummy grew so much, leaning on it made me nauseous and hence horrible time sleeping - tossing and turning all the time. A couple of nights ago I actually figured it out. I now put one end of the pillow between my knees, which surprisingly helps me to sleep more on my side rather than leaning on my stomach, who knew... I do wake up though when I have to change sides (but not as often as before), and unless I have to pee, I fall asleep pretty much right away. The only problem with that is that I think my thighs are starting to hurt a bit. Never a dull moment.

So I think this is it for now. My next update will follow once we are back home which will not be until Wednesday, November 23rd, at which point I'll be at the end of week 24!!!

20 weeks - Half Way to the Finish Line !!!

Well, the week 20 which started last Thursday has not been as excited as the previous week, although we are half way through our pregnancy. I have been feeling my baby more during this week and feeling him brings smile to my face wherever I am. In accordance with one of my tickers, the baby is now the size of a cantaloupe, and it definitely feels this way. I think he is constantly growing and I feel how heavy my tummy becomes and constant stretching of my tummy.

I was on pins and needles on Friday afternoon waiting from a call from my friend in the States as she was having her anatomy scan. When we were in US, I was kidding that I am going to have a girl and she is going to have a boy (that's what we both wanted) and that our kids would get married. Well, I am having a boy, and was sure that she is having a girl, as it switched for us. She jokingly suggested that if she is having a girl we can switch. LOL. She is my best friend and I am ashamed to admit that I felt a ping of jealousy when I thought that I'll have to give her all the girl stuff that my sis saved for me. Well the call came, and she is also having a BOY. Ha ha, so there will be no marriage, but two best friends. Good enough for me!!!

Friday evening I made a date with my pregnant friend N who is just a few days ahead with a due date on March 5th. We actually made it a double date and had our DHs with us. I was lucky that my boss left a few minutes before I had to leave so it wasn't a big problem. The dinner was nice. She looked great and her tummy looked huge, but she is much more petite than me. The surprise was that she gained close to 12 kg and I only 1.5 kg (and I am trying to keep it at that for a while if I can, although now it is closer to 2kg). We were done close to 10 p.m. and even though we were invited to another friend's house, I was too exhausted to go anywhere else, as the night before I woke up at 3:30 a.m. to pee, and when I returned to bed, DH wasn't sleeping and wanted to hug me and kiss the baby (apparently he just got to bed), so one thing led to another and you can guess where it ended. So, of course, thereafter I had no inclination to go back to sleep, we chatted for a bit about his business and then he easily went to sleep, and I was left tossing and turning all night unable to fall asleep or dozing off for little periods of time. Ugh. So, I decided to go to bed on Friday night earlier, and of course, as I got to bed, I decided to call my friend in the States as our earlier conversation was very short as she had tons of people to call to tell the news. I ended up on the phone with her for over 2 hours!!! We talked about everything including our vacation in the near future and she brought up a couple of good points - what are we going to eat?, what are we going to wear to the beach? and what are we going to use as a sun block? Hmmm.... have to think about that more. By the way, any thoughts re whether it is safe to eat raw vegetables and fruits on an all-inclusive resort in Mexico?

Saturday started as always with me going to my prenatal yoga class. On the way back I decided to do a surprise to DH and buy him his favourite Star.bucks coffee, but then I remembered that the week before he actually walked to the store(as we have one car) and bought himself one. So, I called and told him about the surprise from his son & myself, and he said if I show up with a Star.bucks coffee, he will act very much surprised LOL. So we did just that.

As we were having breakfast my dad called and invited us for sushi for lunch. Umm... second day in a row... but he was so insistent that we decided to oblige. As it was close to noon and we were just having breakfast (as I don't eat before going to yoga class), I told him that we should do it close to 3 or 4 p.m. I also was not in the mood for shopping, so I convinced DH to go to my parents' house and go for a walk on the new walkway built by the city next to their house. The weather was a bit chilly, but the walk was still nice. I am estimating that we walked over 4 km, with me, my mom and my brother walking and DH with my dad rollerblading. We did go out for sushi thereafter, and DH also invited MIL to come with us. Since my parents were present too, I didn't mind her that much, so overall it was a nice experience. We dropped MIL at her house and went home to chill out a bit. I tried to sleep, but was not successful. For the rest of the night we just went to my sis' house to spend time with her, BIL and our mutual friend.

Sunday, as DH was driving me to the subway to go to the office, he mentioned how good the weather was, as it was much warmer than Saturday. I did promise him that I would go outside for a bit, which I did walking a longer way from the subway to the office outside. I did spend most of the time in the office though.

Monday, I decided to see if I can sneak out of work a bit earlier, and it just turned out that I didn't have any pressing matters (and by the way, earlier for me is 6:30 p.m.). When I got home, I managed to get DH to agree to go for a walk with me. It was close to freezing, but I was dressed pretty warm. The only thing was that I had a t-shirt and a warmer sports jacket on top, which didn't close, and then my warm jacket which does close, but my tummy created a little tent so the wind would go underneath and the tummy was only covered by the t-shirt and felt a bit naked. Oh well, as we started walking we both got warmed out. We had a nice 2.5 km walk in our neighbourhood. As DH was driving earlier in the afternoon he noticed a cool "haunted house" so we went to see it. The people who live there did go all out. It was a corner house and it was fully decorated with huge moving cats filled with air, to tons of tiny details and an amazing lighting. We decided that the next day we would go in another direction to another "haunted house" which usually is the star of the neighbourhood, as they not only decorate outside, but also inside and their back yard and take donations on Halloween to benefit Sick Kids Hospital, which is a great idea. Unfortunately, both Tuesday and Wednesday I worked to my normal hours (i.e. 7:30 p.m.) and it has been raining, so not really walking mood.

I've been also thinking a lot about our OBGYN visit this Friday (21w1d) and I have a few questions to ask the doctor:
1) I want to know his position regarding flu shots. I am more inclined on taking it (the one specifically formulated for pregnant women, without mercury), but do want to hear his opinion;
2) I also want to know the results of our NT & IPS tests, and of course the second u/s. I have been thinking about it and the last blood work for IPS was done at 17w, so his office should probably have results already, and if they didn't call, then it means that everything is alright. I was also thinking that whatever the results are - it would not change our mind about giving birth to this baby. So, theoretically, who cares...
3) I also want to confirm with him that it is ok for me to fly in about 2 weeks (yei the vacation is coming!!!) as well as ask his thoughts regarding food in Mexico;
4) The last point, is that I got a bit paranoid that I am squishing our baby when I am sleeping. I do use the body pillow, but most of the time I am actually sleeping leaning on to eat and almost on top. I usually feel a few nudges from the inside when I am trying to all asleep or when trying to sleep the last minutes before the alarm. So I think I might not leave him a lot of space. I don't know....

So, yesterday, I also tried my two swimming suites (they are both tankinies), and one is already too small. I can still fit into it, but the underwear are too tight and I have to make sure I fold them to be under my tummy, and then the top part doesn't cover the full tummy, which is OK when you are normal weight and have a nice pregnant belly, but not when you are overweight. So DH & I did some research and bought 2 maternity swimsuits on line and sent them to our US friends, cause its cheaper and they are coming with us so they'll bring it with them to our vacation. But since we are on the topic of my body, here is the scoop for 21 weeks. I gained almost 2 kg, which puts me at about the same weight as I was pre pregnancy. That's ok. I have tons of stretch marks on my bbs and my thighs, but I had stretch marks there before, so not really sure if there are new ones (that's the beauty of being overweight all your life and yo-yoing weight). The tummy is holding on, no stretch marks there, and I am hoping none are going to develop. I do put stretch mark cream all over every morning, so here is hoping that it will work. Well, that's it for now. With new updates to follow after OBGYN visit.

19 weeks

The weekend did turn out to be crazy busy for me.

Saturday we got up very early to tidy up the place before the cleaning lady, and once she got to our house, I was off to my prenatal yoga class. Since it was only my second class I am still exploring the place. By the time, I came out from the washroom, all the preggo girls disappeared, but the classroom where we had our class last time was still full of other people, so until I spotted another prego woman going into a different class, I was lost. To say that the class was full, is an understatement. I think I took almost the last cm of uncovered space on the floor. When the teacher came in, she asked if we wanted to move to a bigger studio, which most agree we should do. As I was packing my stuff, I saw a familiar face. This was a friend of a friend who I've met a few times, who has a child from a previous relationship and just got married a few weeks ago. I didn't know she was pregnant, but it was nice to have somebody familiar in class. When we moved we actually got two spots next to each other, so we could chit chat before and after class. She is about 2 weeks behind me and is due close to the end of March beginning of April.

The class itself was pretty intense (much more intense than the first class I've been at). I was happy I didn't forget my water this time around (although I did forget my mat, but they had mats available at the studio). Once we were done, I had about 30 min before my sugaring appointment, so I sat in my car and had an apple. I was lucky, as when I got to the sugaring place 15 min early, the girl was free and she took me ahead of my apt which was nice. Needless to say, I didn't get home until after 1 p.m. and DH and I left to run some errands.

We got home just in time for me to take a shower and hurry to our nephew's 6 birthday party. It was in some art studio close to the house. When we got there, most of the kids were there already (they had about 14) including my niece and my brother. Since my brother requires special attention, my mom was there too, and so as another parent, who I know pretty good. I knew most of the kids (or could remember who they are), so I actually enjoyed helping them out painting their treasure box and then washing and cleaning up and get pizza, chips and at the end - a birthday cake (I know, that's not the most healthiest food - but pizza was thin crust and whole wheat, and I didn't touch the cake). My SIL seemed very grateful that DH & I were there to lend a hand (even though we don't have kids yet), as kids did get out of hand a bit. When the parents came to pick up the kids, since I know most of them (and DH & I don't see them that often) we had a lot of congratulations and talk re pregnancy, birth and kids :) Overall it was a nice experience.

My mom invited us to their place for dinner, and DH agreed as he didn't have pizza and was hungry. The good thing was that after we had dinner, my mom and I went to the basement and got all sorts of kids books in Russian, some of which I could remember from my childhood! I really wanted DH to start reading to our son, but Saturday night our friends came over and we didn't get to bed until after 1 a.m.

Sunday morning I had to get out of the house kind of early as well, as I was meeting my ivf(dot)ca friends Downtown. I checked my emails in the morning, and one of the girls couldn't make is as her daughter got sick, but I met with the other two, who are both pregnant with twins (one naturally, after a few failed IVFs!!!). I had an amazing time and didn't get to work until 3:30 p.m. which ended up to be a late night. DH went to go to a movie and I started reading a book to my baby.

Monday night, I cornered DH and he actually read an entire chapter to our son. Initially it was kind of awkward and funny. I moved my chair to his desk at the office, he took a book and bent a bit to be closer to my tummy when he started reading. He was complaining that his reading aloud skills are not that great, but he did get a hang of it. I was so proud of him!!!

I have also started to feel much more movement. On Tuesday morning as I was taking the train to work, I could feel the baby moving inside, and it made me smile! Although in the evening my mood changed in a completely opposite direction. DH was supposed to take his brother and nephew to a pediatrician, DR. B. Well Dr. B is a very good pediatrician who is taking care of all 4 of my nephews and niece. When we talked about this appointment a few weeks ago with my BIL and SIL, we did talk about asking Dr. B directly to take us as new patients, as he already has a pretty busy practice. So in the evening DH was saying that he saw a very cute thing when he was at DR. B's office. I interrupted him and asked whether he talked to Dr. B and he said that after he dropped my BIL and nephew off at the office, he had to run an errand and when he came back they were already in with the doctor. So DH asked the secretary - who of course said that Dr. B is not accepting new patients, and we can try another doctor operating from the same office. Well, needless to say I got very upset and rude with DH, I told him that it was such an amazing opportunity to talk to Dr. B directly and he missed it!!! and that we specifically discussed it a few weeks ago, which he couldn't remember. Anyways, it didn't get ugly, but I did get watery eyes just by thinking about it. Then I got upstairs to go to bed, and as I was brushing my teeth, I remembered that DH actually started talking about something before I interrupted him. So I went to the office and ask him what it was. It was a winter car seat cover, which he really loved and which we should think about as the baby is due in March. When I finally got to bed, I couldn't fall asleep, all I could remember was DH's face and how excited he was about the car seat cover, and felt guilt for yelling at him. I started bawling and got up to ask for forgiveness. DH didn't know what to do with me. He did say that he didn't take it personally as he knows that I have a lot of raging hormones and it is hard to control my emotions, so he was all ok and that I should go back to bed and try to get to sleep. I did, but I guess the baby didn't like my crying fit, as I could actually feel flatters in my tummy (which I think were his feet) and then some movement as well.

I felt a bit better in the morning, and I could feel the baby moving again on the train, and then when I was in a meeting with my boss (I guess he doesn't really like my boss - and there the feeling is mutual). When I got back to the computer, I was checking my emails. The night before I sent an email to my SIL asking if she has any other apt, she didn't respond. So I wrote an email to my sis asking the same thing and barely hold in tears. My sis responded right away. She said that her BIL knows the doctor personally and that he will call him and schedule an apt for us whenever we want. When I read that I couldn't hold on to my tears any longer. I was just thankful that I was left to my own devices and my boss was nowhere around. So, tomorrow, I'll ask my sis to talk to her BIL and schedule us for the next available apt at any time of the day and night that he is available.

Due to my bouts of crying and inability to sleep the night before. I was very very tired. I barely made it to 6 o'clock, and asked my boss if I could leave a bit earlier then usually as I am exhausted, to which he replied that he would prefer that I stay a bit later and finish up one project. I was so mad! but I stayed, what else could I do??? All I need is to stick around for another 3 months. Our vacation is in about 3.5 weeks, and I will be able to survive until then. Thereafter, I'll be very pregnant and showing it, so I doubt he would dare to make me stay late! But he leaves on his vacation on December 21 and comes back in January, and I have a number of prenatal classes booked for January and beginning of February. Plus, my replacement should start at the beginning of February, and my job for the next two weeks would be just sit next to that person and supervise. Awwww, can't wait. February 10, 2012, is my official last day, and hope that I can stay away from this slave factory even after my baby is born! Yep, pregnancy hormones... What can you do?

19w1d Pretty in ....

blue, yellow or green.... or should I say HANDSOME!!!

IT'S A BOY!!!!

But lets start from the beginning.

Yesterday was my nephew's birthday. My oldest nephew turned 6! and I remember the day he was born. My SIL was in labour for the whole duration of Yom Kippur. It was also the first time I realized that labour can be THAT long. She was in labour for over 26 hours and gave birth right before the fast ended. But yesterday we had tons of food to celebrate his birthday. The funny part that my entire family was there my sis and BIL with kids and my parents with my brother, and of course the conversation shifted to our little one. My parents, my sis & my SIL were all saying that I am having a girl. They could feel it and they knew it. At that point I became very certain that since they are insisting the baby is a girl, the baby would actually be a boy.

I took an early train this morning as I had to leave the office by 12:30 p.m. I was so anxious just thinking about this u/s and the gender determination. My dad called at 11 a.m. and asked why I didn't call him to tell him the sex. So I told him that I am still at the office and the u/s is not until 2:00 p.m. Before leaving I actually went to pee (twice within 10 min) and then at around 1 p.m. finished a 500ml bottle of water (although they said 1L, my bladder is not that big). Of course the subway got stuck a few times (always happens when you are in a rush). When I finally go to the last stop and got up, I could barely walk. I drank too much. I got to the car 20 min late and noticed my BIL in the car as well. DH informed me that they had to stop by one place on the way and drop of my BIL at his house. Uhmm.... I was already pissed at the subway, and at the pain of the full bladder and seeing how we only had less than 20 min to get to the u/s, I was not pleased to say the least. To make the story short, we got there at 2 p.m. exactly (even thought they asked me to come in 10 min earlier).

By that time, I couldn't sit. 10 minutes that I waited for an u/s in the reception seemed like forever, and I was pacing from side to side of the little waiting room. Finally my name was called and DH got up to come with me. The nice u/s tech turned out to also speak Russian. She told DH to stay outside and that she will call him when we are ready for him. I told the tech that I am in a lot of pain and she said that I should go and pee. I asked "How much?" and she said just to pee until I feel better. Oh, that was such a relief!!! We went to one u/s room and the tech said that she is not happy with the machine and she will start it here, but wants me to be on the newer machine in another room, so she was just waiting for another lady to finish in there. As she was taking measurements on the older machine, we were chit chatting about kids and IF and cost of IVF, she was also exclaiming how beautiful our baby is. After about 5-10 min, she said that she wanted to hurry the other tech from the other room, which she did, and we moved to a much newer machine. She proceeded with the u/s and then exclaimed that she could see who the baby is. I asked who and she said it's a BOY. OMG a boy. I was so happy to finally refer to my baby in a proper gender. We actually did refer to the baby as he, just because the word "child" or "baby" in Russian is a masculine word.

Anyways, once she told me she said she better go and get DH right away. When they came back, I told DH that we know who the baby is. DH asked me to tell him, but the tech interrupted and said that she would show him. She quickly found the right point and showed DH - one leg, then the second leg, and then.... something in between. The look on DH's face was priceless. He was beaming with pride. His first baby is a SON, we are having a baby BOY, and handsome baby BOY! I did shed a couple of tears at that point, first time at the u/s. The tech proceeded showing us different images of the baby. Our son (OMG I can't believe I am saying this word) was sucking his thumb, it was so funny. DH asked if this is her moving the probe or the baby is moving and she said that it was the baby too. She stopped to show us the movement and we could see the baby trying to shove his entire fist into his mouth! She showed us his face and his lips. She moved it around so we can see our son sucking his thumb from different angles. Then she showed us his heart with all four chambers. we got a treat - we listened to his h/b for just a bit, as she was charting it on the computer. He changed the angle and we could see his little fit and the soles of his feet. It looked like he was running in there, with feet moving all the time, which also looked like he was trying to climb out :) She showed us the placenta being high and away from the cervix and cervix being nice and long.

DH asked her about measurement and she said that the baby is measuring 17 cm from head to bum :) He asked whether the images one the screen were 1:1. At this point she was concentrating on the baby's hands, and she calculated that the distance from the elbow to his wrist was 5 cm (5cm can you imagine!!! with the whole arm being around 10cm) then they looked at the screen and the image was much smaller than that, so now the u/s machine was actually minimizing the size to fit it on the screen. We've spend about 20 minutes with her showing us our baby. Just before we left she said that the baby's weight was 330 grams and that the baby was actually 1 whole week ahead, measuring at 20w1d. She joked that we are going to have a chubby baby, and I told her that looking at the baby's mama and papa, it is not surprising, LOL. She said everything looked good on the u/s. We were both just ecstatic.

The only downside was that they don't print pictures and you have to order a CD if you want them. So we haven't decided yet whether we want one or not.

When we finished, I again went to the washroom and DH waited for me at the reception area with my things. As soon as I got to my phone, I could see IMs from my sis and txt from my friend in Ohio (her u/s is next Friday). As I was typing "boy" in a reply text, my phone rang and it was actually her calling. I told her quickly that it was a boy and that I'll call her a bit later, as I have to call my family. Of course, DH was already on the phone with his brother. I called my sis, and she answered the phone with "Nuuuu!" I told her it is a boy and she couldn't believe it! They were convinced it was a girl. She asked if she could tell people. I told her that of course she could, I only have to talk to parents first. That was my next call, I called my parents house and both of them answered. So I told them that we got another "pipiska!!!" and that it is definitely a BOY. Again, notwithstanding their conviction earlier, the reacted pretty good to the news. I did tell them that the baby was healthy and moving around and my parents were both happy to hear that.

Since I was in my neighbourhood so early in the afternoon, I decided to take care of myself a little bit. I did my eyebrows (that I haven't done for a while) and of course took out all other hair on my face. I guess the fact that the hair on my face, my nipples and tummy is growing like crazy, was a give away that my body is full of testosterone. So after I was done, I spent pretty much the entire evening on the phone. My clerk called and said that she and the other lawyer were betting on who I am having and that she said a boy and the other lawyer said a girl. Well she won! I am glad I could help LOL. I talked to a few close friends, as well as my cousin. I also finally was able to get through to my SIL, and called my friend from Ohio back to give her all the details.

Overall, I have been an an emotional high since the moment we found out.

DH & I decided to go to our favourite Asian spot for dinner tonight (cause I didn't want to eat what we had), and we had some nice alone time (with me off the phone for most of the time). Then we stopped by the grocery store and bought some frozen yogourt on sale (4 packs) and we tried it all when we got home. Yep, we both have sweet teeth.

This weekend is shaping up like a very hectic one. The cleaning lady is coming in at 9 a.m. so we have to get up at 8 to clean up the house :) Then I have prenatal yoga at 10:30 a.m. and my upkeep Brazilian sugaring at 12:30 p.m. I also need to get some more prenatal vitamins, get my shoes fixed (old but comfy ones), get maternity pants and a pair of jeans hemmed. And then attend my nephew's kids birthday party from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. I don't think I'll have any energy left to go out after that. This Sunday, I am meeting a few friends from ivf(dot)ca who are also pregnant. All with twins (except me). And then to the office.

On another news, I found a Russian book on line which DH liked as a child. I've read in a few places that it is suggested that DH reads or talks to the baby so that the baby knows his voice and recognizes him when he comes out. Well, for now it is me reading the book and DH working on his computer. When I pressed him about this today, he told me that he still has 4 months, so back off for now. My pregnancy brain would be telling me that he doesn't care, but then a few days ago he told me that he had a dream that he put his hand on my tummy and he could feel the baby moving. The thing is DH is not the type of people who (a) has dreams and (b) is a completely non romantic and non emotion showing type of guy. Knowing that he has dreams about my baby warms my heart, as I know that he does care and thinks about our baby. So, I decided to forgive him for now, and drop the subject for a few days/weeks. We will see how that goes.

Anyways, me and my son are going to bed, after I read him a bit more of that book. Good night!

18 weeks

The time is moving so so slowly... Tomorrow we will hit our 19 week mark and then one more week until the mid point in our pregnancy. Another event that I've been waiting for what feels like forever is our anatomy (or is it anomaly) scan u/s on Friday. Am I too shallow to pretty much only care if its a boy or a girl? It does preoccupy my thoughts a lot lately. I just want to know! I guess once DH said that everything is going to be ok with this baby and with this pregnancy, I kind of assumed that that's the way it is going to be. I am a bit nervous that I haven't felt the baby since the last time (which was over a week ago), but then I guess my baby is comfy where it is and doesn't have a need to poke me :) Although, I do get jealous when I read other mommies-to-be telling their stories of their babies kicking right, left and centre. Oh well... my time will come - I just have to be patient. But back to the events of this week, and it was a crazy one.

Friday was the beginning of Yom Kippur which was starting at 6:31 p.m. and of course, out of all Fridays, it was the craziest day ever. I had to finish a major agreement which was supposed to be done in the morning, but of course, IT guys came to switch our telephone system and needed our computers as well. Also, the IT guy who was working in my office didn't connect the phone properly (I was in the washroom at that time). Then I asked them to redo it, and of course, he redid it when I was in a meeting with my boss. Again screwed it up. I was running out of time, so I just told him to forget it and that this pregnant lady would go under the desk and reconnect all the wires herself next time I am in on the weekend. Ugh!!! Really pissed me off. The time of my departure from the office was gradually moving to later and later train, until I hit the point that if I don't catch the next train, I am not going to make it in time. I did send the agreement out to client, and had to almost run to catch the train.

By the time I got home I was all frazzled and stressed out. I looked for the prayer on my ipone on my way home as we were running out of time. When I got home and got the candles out, I still had a few minutes to spare. I told myself to relax and stop thinking about the events of the day, I lit the candles and said a prayer and felt so much at peace... It was a very nice feeling. I had the last meal with DH (it was the last one for him, not for me), and we spent the evening watching TV (I know we are not supposed to watch TV, but we usually do).

When I was looking for times and prayers on one of my favourite Jewish websites, I found an article about fasting by pregnant ladies. It did say that if it is done right and if there are no complications and it is not a high risk pregnancy, it is ok to fast. The comments to that article were priceless (they were on both sides). I sent it to DH and he said "over my dead body". Yep, I didn't plan on fasting either, but I didn't expect such a strong reaction. He said he'll take my sin on him. I didn't ask my OB about fasting and I wasn't making any decisions based on one article. Besides, when they were listing high risk pregnancy they did mention IVF pregnancy, so I decided that I fit in that category.

On Saturday the plan was to try to sleep in as much as possible (if DH doesn't go to synagogue, some years we would get up close to 1 p.m.). But of course, MIL called just after 11 a.m. to see how DH is doing. Needless to say I was pissed. She NEVER calls us on a weekend that early, but she had to do it on Yom Kippur. Of course, we couldn't fall asleep after that. I went downstairs and boiled 2 eggs for my breakfast, which I had with a piece of cheese and some bread. As I was quietly eating in the kitchen, I was thinking about DH upstairs and felt so sorry for him that I had tears streaming down my face (I blame pregnancy hormones!). We did spend a few more hours in front of the TV, then went to see my BIL & SIL who had another friend over as well. The weather was amazing, and we sat at the backyard and chatted for a bit. We went to my sis house thereafter, and they also had a few friends over, but they were sitting inside, so we didn't stay for long. In addition, her live-in was preparing food for the kids, and even though I wasn't hungry I felt bad for DH. When we got home, I had a tomato and an apple. Then my sis came over with the kids and we all went for a walk to a nearby playground, where DH was happy just to sit in the shade and conserve the energy. By the time we got home there was about 1.5 hours left till the end of the fast. We stayed home a bit and then went to BIL & SIL to break the fast. Overall, it was nice to be able to pretty much disconnect from the hectic life. I didn't even turn on my computer, nor checked emails on my iphone. I started thinking a lot about that being the reason for Shabbat. It's the time to be with G-d but also with your family. Since I work on Sundays, Saturdays are always hectic, spent running errands and not too much time with the family. I was thinking that after my maternity leave, I will not agree to work over the weekend as I would want to spend more time with my baby and DH, just some quiet time getting to know each other.

On Sunday we hosted our traditional family breakfast. As I said before, I do love having everyone at our house (our big family and 5 kids plus a little "bun in the oven") My mom stayed with us for a bit, and then DH and I went shopping, and it was very productive. I got some shoes for the fall. We also went to look for a maternity store and it wasn't where I was told it would be (and where I remember it was), so DH & I decided to go to the shoe store next. As we parked and got out of the car to go to the shoe store, I looked up and the maternity store was just one store away. Ha!!! They moved to a new location. So I got 2 pairs of maternity dress pants, and 3 short sleeve shirts (for our November vacation). I've actually got a few long sleeve shirts from Cos.tco which were pretty loose and fit perfectly even with my bulging tummy. So overall, a successful shopping experience. I also promised DH that I would go and see Eli.te Ki.llers with him, which we did on Sunday night, and got our favourite treat - frozen yogourt!

Monday was a big day, and no I am not referring to Thanksgiving (as we don't really celebrate it). My brother was turning 13! Which for a Jewish boy is coming of age. As he is autistic and would not comprehend any religious study, we had our own program. I did promise to take him bowling and he has been mentioning bowling for a few weeks now. So Sunday, I called the bowling place and they said that they were open from 11 to 11. I told them that I want to book one lane for 11 and the girl was like - Uhm we close at 11... to which I replied that I was talking about MORNING!!! I guess it was hard to comprehend that somebody would want to play bowling this early in the morning LOL.

So my mom dropped of my brother at around 10 a.m. and me, DH & him headed to the bowling place. My sis & her DH, my BIL & SIL and my niece and all 3 nephews joined us and we had a blast. Well, at least in the first 30 minutes. As the time was past 45 minutes of bowling, only my oldest nephew was still interested (he is 6 yo), by that point my brother could care less. He would just drop the ball and walk away without even looking if the ball hit any pins. Once we were done it was around 12:30. My sis needed to put her LO to bed, so they left in a hurry. My SIL asked if we wanted to have lunch together as we still had about 3 hours until the party. So we went to a restaurant in the same mall as the bowling alley. My SIL told the waiter that my brother was having his birthday party and on top of having a lunch with us, he got a candle in his sundae and some kind of a happy birthday song courtesy of the restaurant. He was ecstatic!

The restaurant was in the opposite end of the mall from where we parked, and being the only mall in the area which was open on Thanksgiving, it was a challenge just to get to our car. I was exhausted, and asked to go home before going to the party. So my brother and I spent half an hour on the couch resting. He is so tall now, but very thin (unlike the rest of the family). All I could remember is when he was born at 28 weeks, weighting 1kg 105 grams, and losing 100 grams right away, and how we were told that he would not be released from NICU until he reaches 1.5kg. He actually didn't as when he was released just before Christmas, he weighted a bit over 1.4 kg, and fit into one leg of the smallest winter suit that mom and I could find. Then, my brother and I would spend days together, me watching TV after I get back from my morning classes at the university, and him laying on top of my tummy to help with colic. And now, he is all grown up, not as tall as me yet, but almost as tall as my mom. I was 18.5 years old, so he is not only my brother but my first baby.... and I love him to pieces :)

The party was great, we had tons of people at my parents' house, although Dad was away. DH helped to cook at the beginning and then was enjoying the company. I didn't even sit next to him, as the space was limited and both me and my sis were helping our mom with stuff. There were tons of kids too, so my brother had lots of kids to play with (all of them much younger than him, but who is counting). After we had cake the plan was to go for a walk. The city has build a long walking road along a hydro field, and we actually managed to walk over 3 km just chit chatting with my sis, SIL and my cousin. Our DH's were taking care of the kids, plus my sis' MIL was there too taking care of my niece and nephew. Boys were on their bikes and DH was on roller blades. The weather was amazing, so it was very nice to be outside. Most of the guests started leaving after we got back from our walk. But DH and I stayed a bit late as my mom's best friend and her husband came late and were also staying. Her friend had also difficulty in conceiving and keeping the pregnancies, but by the time my mom became friends with her, she had two girls 3 and 5 years old. Now almost 20 years later, her girls are all grown up, but she was still giving me lectures that I should stay off my feet and not run around much :) She means well...

Tuesday was back to work, and the moment I entered the building I knew something was wrong. It felt really warm in the foyer, and I felt like sauna in the offices upstairs. The temperature in my office hit 28.6C. One of the partner's office hit close to 30C. Both partners were walking around red faced. My boss was coming over to my office often reminding me to put cold water on my face and ask me how I was feeling. This was not comfortable, but he never suggested that we go home. The building manager said that mechanics were working on the problem, but by the end of the day the temperature only dropped to 26C. At around 2 p.m. I decided to go for a walk and met an old friend from law school. She was walking her 1 year old. IMHO the middle of Downtown is not the best place for walking a little baby, but they live nearby, so that's were she walks. She told me that she didn't get back to work, and that her DH's business is doing pretty well, so they can afford that. I wish I could do that too, but I really don't think so. It was nice chit chatting with her and catching up on some old friends as well.

In the evening DH was picking up my Dad from the airport, and I went straight to my parents' house after work. My dad bought me my favourite Czech chocolate, which nobody sells in North America. We actually finished one bar after dinner :) We didn't leave until 11 o'clock, and I only had about 6 hours of sleep, which resulted in a very bitchy yours truly today. My boss was annoying me, my colleagues were annoying me, and I was really really tired. The moral of the story - I have to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep to feel like a normal human being. Although the temperature in the office was much cooler today (back to normal), I again went for my little walk around 3 p.m. as I was getting really tired, and am thinking of making it my daily ritual. We will see how it goes.

Anyways, seeing as the time is moving close to midnight, I do have to get to bed asap, as tomorrow will be a long day too. My oldest nephew is turning 6!!! But that's for the next post. The update u/s will follow on Friday - wish me luck!!!

17w5d - We've Got Movement!!!

So, October 4th will be one of my most memorable days! We've got movement!!!

After I finished with my post last night, I went pretty much straight to bed. I was laying on my right side thinking about the next day and trying to fall asleep. The thought came to my mind that I should turn, but then I was already half asleep and too lazy to do that, so then I felt a nudge in my tummy. No butterflies, but a kick from the inside! I called DH who was in the office just next to our bedroom and he ran over. I was laying still and could definitely feel some movement. DH told the baby to continue doing what he/she is doing and run to prepare himself for bed. In a few minutes he was by my side, it was pretty quiet down there, and DH put his hand on my tummy. A few seconds after that I could feel another kick. When I felt it I almost jumped it was so unexpected, weird, but oh so coool!!! I almost yelled at DH asking him if he could feel it and he said all he can feel is me moving from excitement. I couldn't believe it that he couldn't feel it as it felt really strong to me (I guess from the inside). DH was a bit upset, but I did tell him that it was a bit too early for him to be able to feel it through all the padding that I have. I turned around, and I think the baby liked that position much better as he/she didn't make his/her presence know anymore and I felt asleep.

I don't think it was the movement from the arms or legs, I think that the baby was either kicking me with his/her head or bum. I also think that the baby is more toward my right side, and that's why he/she didn't like me staying on that side. I have more pains in my right side (I think the baby is pushing on my ovary or something), plus when the OBGYN was searching for a heartbeat he also found it more on the right side of my tummy. I also started to think that may be the little aches and pains that I am feeling are from my bay moving, and I just don't realize it (or don't know what it is like).

The baby is definitely growing, and so does my tummy. The girl at my office who was off for a week, commented today that my tummy did grew. It's hard to notice when I stare at it all the time, but even to me it looks bigger. The weight jumps within 1 kg mark (back and forth), I've had some issues with going to the washroom, so I don't really trust the scale anymore.

My boss has been asking me about my maternity leave and asking me to help with the ad for my replacement. I just sent him an email saying that I'll be leaving in mid February (I am thinking Friday, Feb 10th as Feb 12 will be my 5 year anniversary at the firm). First I was thinking of working till the end of February to ensure that I can take the full advantage of the full 12 months that the government is going to pay me maternity leave, although the max that I can receive from the government is almost 1/3 of my actual salary, which kind of sucks! But, taking a train every morning and trekking Downtown in the middle of winter in my 9th month is not such an appealing idea. So, I told my boss that I am coming back at the end of December beginning of January (probably Monday, January 7, 2013), that would ensure that I'll be with the baby for at least 10 months if the baby is born around his/her due date. It sucks that I have absolutely no benefits at work, although if I remind myself of my friends South of the border, who only have a few month with the baby, I do consider myself pretty lucky. I am not going to look at some countries in Europe who do get a year or more with full salary. Oh well, thank G-d that even with 2 IVFs and 1FET we managed to save some money (not much though) that we can survive on the governmental maternity benefits and DH's income when the baby gets here.

16 going on 17 weeks

Well today is 17w6d and I am a bit behind in describing all the events that happened since the last blog almost 2 weeks ago! Those have been a few weeks of firsts!!!

So Saturday (Sept. 24) I had my first Brazilian sugaring. It was a bit painful, but I loved it! and more importantly DH loved it. I definitely decided to maintain it this way close to the delivery, as I was reading the booklet from my hospital and it said 3 times that they do not recommend shaving within the last 4 weeks - only trimming or waxing etc. Interesting, right?

On the same Saturday we went for one of my acquaintance's 30th birthday. As I was the only one pregnant, it was nice to get a bit attention and questions regarding how I am feeling, when the baby due, etc. I haven't been feeling that well, plus didn't dance much so for me it wasn't a really enjoyable evening. I barely made it to midnight so we can go.

The next morning, DH and I were just laying around and he put his hand on my tummy and both him and I could feel some movement - not the "butterfly" that everyone else is describing, which I think is kicking, but probably our baby turning. It also could have been my other bodily functions and we would never know, as it hasn't happen since, and at that point I was only a bit over 16 weeks.

I have also discovered that I am no longer avert to change! Even though all my life I've dreaded change (look at my employment history - 4 years with first employer, 3.5 years with second, and almost 5 years with my present one). But when my favourite site ivf(dot)ca changed it's look and so did yahoo mail, it didn't bother me one bit (although previously I was annoyed when yahoo tried to change their template on me).

Everything is changing, I've created a list of things to do before the baby arrives. Although, we haven't even touched any of the items, I think with every day the I realize more and more that I am actually pregnant and that the baby is coming soon.

I have always been a planner, especially for events being held in our house. Last Wednesday was Rosh Hashana (Jewish New Year), and we were having 25 people (mostly family and relatives and a couple of friends). I started planning the whole thing just a few day before, it is mostly who brings what and make sure that we have all the necessary things. For the past 3 years that we've celebrated Rosh Hashana at our house I would really get excited and plan everything to the littlest detail. This time, I just was too tired to even care.

I left the office on the first train, but when I got to the house I was already exhausted. All I wanted to do is to lay down for a few minutes until guests arrived, but of course, by the time I set the table (DH was cooking) and cleaned up a bit, my cousin and her DH came over to start cooking what they were supposed to bring, so I couldn't just excuse myself and go upstairs to rest. I stayed with them. The funny thing is that when my cousin came she kissed me hello and also kissed my tummy!!! and she did the same thing when she was leaving, and she is the only one (beside DH) who did that. It actually felt a big weird but so so nice!!!

Then when everybody got to our house, I got a very bad heartburn and couldn't eat or drink anything. Of course, my tu.ms were at the office and I had none at home, so for the entire evening I was just drinking kefir (nothing to do with the celebration, but more with it being made from milk and having lots of calcium). After finishing all the prayers, I just laid down on the couch next to the table and just stayed there for the entire evening.

Well, that wasn't fun, but Thursday turned out to be even worse. I threw up!!! for the first time since being pregnant! At 17 weeks!!! Can you imagine? I was in total shock that it happened. Thank G-d I was in the washroom at that time anyways, so all I had to do is turn around, but I hate throwing up!!! I decided not to eat anything after that (all I had was breakfast and then a little apple, which caused all the flurry of the activity). I also left the office on the first train out and walked home. The 30 minute walk seemed to help a bit to calm my nerves and my tummy. I did take a little rest as well, before finally deciding to go to our friends house for the second night of Rosh Hashanah. It was nice, as my parents were there too (so as my sis and my niece).

When we got in the door at my friends house, I could see my niece sitting on the sofa talking to a friend of my friend. My sis was right beside her, so she told me the conversation. My niece told the person next to her that it is her auntie that just came in and that her auntie has a big tummy. Of course, the girl next to her was a bit shocked, until my niece continued that that's because "she has a baby in there". My niece and my dad also decided that we are going to have a girl. Hmmm... My family are so sure its a girl, and that's what scares me. Every time my family unanimously tell me that something is going to be one way, it is ALWAYS happened to be the opposite!!! So I am preparing for a boy... at least for now.

The next morning, Friday (17w1d) we had our next OGBYN apt. For some reason I was dreading it. I didn't want to be touched (even though I was all prepped after my Brazilian), I guess after 4.5 years of TTC my body just finally had enough. But it was not as "painful" as I was picturing it. Again when we came in there was just one more couple in the waiting room. He was done quickly with them. I told the doctor about my heart palpitations and he asked me if I have any caffeine (it turned out that the only caffeine I have had was in chocolate - so no chocolate for me!) He also said that all dull aches and pains I have been experiencing are all growing pains and nothing to worry about.

Then as we moved into the examination room, I asked if we are going to hear the heartbeat, to which the doctor replied "Of course". He took out the little machine and put some cream on my tummy. He then proceeded to look for one, while telling me that it could take a bit and not to worry. To my surprise, I wasn't worried - at all! And then we heard it - the most amazing sound I've ever heard (so far..) DH & I were awestruck, and I did get teary eyed (just a bit). The little things like this help me realize that it is actually happening to me - there is a little person and in 5 months - the 2 are going to be 3!

Saturday, I attended my first class for prenatal yoga. It was a great class! (I felt a few new muscles on Sunday, LOL). Of course, the first girl I talked to also got pregnant through IVFs. The class was full, and the funny thing was that when everyone introduced themselves and told their due date, about 80% of the girls were due in MARCH! Even the teacher commented that it must have been something in the water in June :) When I told DH he said that it was not surprising then that we couldn't get a few OBGYNs that we wanted.

We spent most of Saturday at home, but did get out to go to apple orchard for apple picking. I love the taste of fresh picked apples, and I had a LOT of apples that day!

Sunday was back to the office, and I was feeling very tired, so decided to take the latest train on Monday. I talked to DH and my sis and we decided that from now on I'll be taking a later train in (1 hour more of sleep!!!) and DH will drive me instead of my sis. Well, he only have to get up like 10 minutes earlier than usual. So here we are, I cut my hours by 1 hour a day, which is a great accomplishment for me. The next will be to abolish Sundays. I already told my boss that I am taking the entire long weekend as Friday night Yom Kippur starts and goes on Saturday. Sunday I am taking my brother bowling for his pre birthday gift and Monday will be his actual birthday. My baby brother is turning 13!!!

So, in the past two weeks the overall feelings are - I've become nauseous again! The hot flashes are back too. It's hard for me to sleep through the night, as I wake up either to turn around or to go to pee - which is pretty much every hour! The aches and pains are still here. I also have been having difficulties with my stomach and feel bloated most of the time. I am definitely showing, but nobody notices as I am a big girl to begin with, but even my warm sports pants are too tight now to wear at home, so I am wearing the ones with lower waist and just slide them down below my tummy.

In other great news: the anomaly scan is scheduled for October 14 which is in about 10 days from today. Yei!!!!

Plus, we finally signed up for prenatal classes for the end of January and beginning of February. Those include: labour & delivery, taking care of the baby, breast feeding, and emergency & CPR workshop. The classes fill up quickly so had to register now, but wanted to take them closer to the due date so that at least something remained in our brains when the baby actual gets here.

So that's it for now. Going to bed, and hopefully the next update would not be far behind (probably after the long weekend).

15 weeks & Trip to Ohio

This was a very eventful week and I had no strength to get to my computer at home until today. I've been EXHAUSTED. Have to have a chat with my boss on Sunday (yep, still working Sundays) and cut my hours back, otherwise he is not going to get much productivity out of me. But I'll start from the time I left off at my last post.

So last week Tuesday my uncle did flew in from overseas, and once it was confirmed that he landed and an approximate time he will be home, DH & I drove to his house. The added bonus - my cousin and her husband were also there, but my parents didn't arrive yet. As we said our hello's, my aunt asked if I wanted some wine and I said NO we are not drinking (I did use "WE"), then I continued looking at my uncle that I wanted him to be in TO in March. He asked whether I'll be travelling to L (where I was born) and want to stay in his house there. I told him "NO, I won't be able to travel at that time". A this point, I could see that my aunt realized what was happening and started beaming, but didn't say a word, as I was pressing on. I said to my uncle "d.V. I can't drink, and I can't travel, why do you think that is?" At that point my cousin entered the room and yelled "Are you pregnant?" Needless to say they were all ecstatic (as they kind of knew that we wanted to have a baby for a long time, but not the extent of our TTC journey). So then my uncle kept asking if my dad knew, and at that point my parents came. We had a lovely evening with most of the conversation centred around my pregnancy and the baby.

I thought that my uncle was a bit upset and I wanted to talk to my dad about it, but was very busy in the office on Wednesday. Instead, around lunch time I got a call from my dad who said that d.V. called and said that he was upset that my dad didn't tell him before as he knew for some time now. I am lucky that my dad read my mind and told d.V. the exact thing that I would have told him - he said that those are very exciting news that I wanted to tell him in person and not over the phone, and that once I knew that he was coming home I dropped everything and went to him right away to tell him the news in person - well, my uncles was pleased!

So then on Wednesday evening I decided to call my other cousin in TO ("N") who I don't see or talk to much, not because I don't want to but because they decided to leave at the opposite side of the City and by the time I get home I don't really want to talk to anybody. Anyways, I called her and asked her about her school (she went back to college this fall) and then her work (as she worked at the same place where I started my career), then I told her that I can't wait until I leave my work in 5 months. She asked if it was forever and I said, nope, probably for a year. Then she clicked and asked if I was pregnant, and I said "yep". At that moment I had to move away from the phone as she was literally screaming in my ear - happy scream. I didn't expect such a reaction and was a bit shocked. She asked if she can tell her husband and her mom (my aunt) and I said, of course, and she wanted to call them right away - as I looked at the time (it was 10:30 p.m.) I told her that neither her husband nor her mom would be happy waking up t 5:30 a.m. We actually ended up talking for another 30 minutes and when we finished she said that she has to tell someone the great news and it would be ok to wake up her husband at 6:00am :) After I finished with her, I was too tired to pack, so just went to sleep.

Thursday morning, I started with packing my suit case, well actually I gathered all the things I was taking for the weekend onto my dresser and DH was to pack it once he gathered all his stuff. We managed to leave TO at around 7:30 p.m., crossing the border was pretty quick, the immigration/customs person just looked at our trunk and the bags of food (mostly fruit) and let us go. We stopped at a nice hotel about 5 hours into our trip and in the morning had only 3 more hours to drive.

On our way to Cincinnati, we stopped at the outlet mall, but i wasn't in the mood to buy anything, although DH managed to get a few things that he wanted for some time. We were at our friends house by 3 p.m. Her DH was working but she made a nice lunch (yummy) and bought a cheesecake (double yummy!). So after we finished with all the food we decided to go for a walk. She recommended a park nearby that her and her hubby really liked. I was lucky that they had washrooms along the trails as we took two long trails (took us over 1.5 hours) and by the time we were done it was already getting pretty dark. It was a great work out though! I could feel all my muscles as I don't really exercise much (although I should!). We got home at the same time as her husband came over. The guys of course had some drinks and me and my friend just had a glass of milk each :) We finished our night at a local pub where the guys had more to drink, and the ladies enjoyed caffeine free iced tea.

The next morning we had a long breakfast as we were catching up on a lot of stuff. The plan was to go to one store and then for a walk in Downtown. Well the guys decided that while we got to the store they will go to a number of dealerships to look at cars. The thing is that right now we only have one car, and DH & I decided that we will need a second car when the baby comes as I'll be home alone with the baby during the day and there is not much i can do within a walking distance from our car. To make the story short, we managed to go to a few stores and malls while guys were going to one dealership after another. Then we didn't have time to go for a walk Downtown as we had reservations at a Brazilian restaurant, which was not bad as it was the first time in a long time I was able to eat meat. There was another nice surprise - a huge Oktober.fest right next to the restaurant, and we spent some time being squished by all sorts of people drinking beer and eating German food and listening to German music. DH loved it and wanted to stay there for a while, I didn't mind either, but our friends were not enjoying so many people (and there were lots and lots of people) so we went home and continued to party there (well, boys continued and I bid good night around midnight).

Sunday we were thinking of leaving at around noon - 1 p.m., but had such a great time just talking about different stuff that we didn't get to our car close to 2 p.m. and then continued talking just standing there for a good quarter of an hour. I was so sad to leave. I know that we are going to see them again in November when all of us would go to our "babymoon", but she is one of my best friends and it was so hard to say good bye. The drive was almost uneventful. The guy at the border didn't even look at our passports (Canadian security - go figure...). We did hit some traffic about 2 hours away from home that delayed our arrival by over 30 minutes.

I was happy that I didn't gain any weight while vising Ohio, but I had a very bad constipation on Sunday and Monday and by Tuesday gained a whole 1 kg. I really hope that it's because of that. I guess we'll see tomorrow.

I am happy to report that I did get my be.lla band while we were in the States, and I am loving it!!! I used it with my jeans while I was there and with my dress pants (NOT the fat ones) at work this week.

Monday and Tuesday were crazy busy at work (as was expected). I am getting tired by around 3 p.m., by 5 p.m. I am exhausted and by the time I leave (which is 7:20 p.m., I am completely brain dead!). So the standard operating procedure at home is just eating salad in front of the TV and going to sleep. Although, yesterday the procedure changed a bit as we BDed just before going to sleep and it was amazing! We both finally could let go of our fears for the baby and just enjoy it the way we used to. Yei for us!!!

Today, I was exhausted the moment I got up, and also have had a headache since the morning. The headache got so bad by mid day that I think it turned in to a migraine as I got very nauseous, it was hard to concentrate on work at all. I managed to leave by 6:20 p.m. to get an earlier train, so I could relax at home.

It's funny but my 4 y.o. niece called me today (using face talk through iPhone with my sis' help of course) and she told me that she wants a baby girl cousin so she can play with her. When I asked her whether she is going to play with her cousin if its going to be a boy, she thought about it and said that she will. She started talking again, but I couldn't hear her as the TV was on, so I moved to another room just in time to hear her say to me that I should not be upset if it is a boy. She also said that she is coming to my baby shower and will help to organize it with her mommy. And that she will bring a small present for the baby as the baby is small and then when the baby is going to be bigger (like 4, 5, 6 years old) she'll bring the baby a bigger present. She was so cute, just from the shower and sitting in her bed. I blew her a kiss and told her that I love her and she kissed the phone and said that she love me too. I was so touched by this conversation!!!

14 weeks

It's Monday night and I am writing my post for this week (which I usually do on Wednesday or Thursday), but I had so many thoughts and new feelings today that I just have to "write" them down.

I couldn't fall asleep last night. I was nauseous and rally tired, but couldn't sleep, but when I finally fell a sleep I had a dream. DH asked if it was a nice dream or a bad dream, and I couldn't even answer this question. I was in the hospital waiting room with my baby in my arms, but with the umbilical cord still connecting us. I was told that I have to had a c-section as there was a lot of umbilical cord left in me and it all tangled and the baby is not getting nutrition. So I was sitting in the waiting room, waiting for the surgery and breast feeding my baby. Weird, right? But the thing is that I am not so worked up about the dream itself but by the feelings it evoked. The entire morning I was missing my baby, I really wanted to hold him/her in my arms, to the point where my heart is aching. I just long for my baby, and I can't even describe it. This is the first time that I actually felt a connection to the little soul that is inside me.

I was also bored at work a bit (shhh, don't tell my boss) and I was browsing other blogs and looking at the belly pictures. I did realize today that my tummy does feel bigger and the "fat" pants starting to hurt much more (and stay open pretty much from the moment I get to my office to the second I have to get out to meet people or go home). But once I looked that the belly pics of thin people at around the same stage, they looked HUGE, and I dawned on me. I am showing! There is actually more baby in my tummy than there is fat. And that's so so cool. I can't wait until our US trip this weekend when I can pick up my be.lla band, and be able to wear other pants as well. My secretary actually touched my tummy today and was surprised on how firm it is. Yes, there is a baby inside, and the realization of this made me very happy.

So, Thursday last week we crossed the 14th week threshold and are nearing 15th week soon. I am happy to report that after I lost 2 kg, I've only gained less than 0.5 kg, and since I decided that I am not gaining more than 6 kg (15lb), I am happy with that, although the last two days were a bit tough with more stuff coming in than coming out (if you know what I mean). I hope that problem gets resolved quickly as I can see the weight gradually going up, but I attribute it to the food that I store inside me. I do get nauseous still if I don't eat on time or when I get tired and in the evenings. Food aversions are still pretty strong as I can't eat fish or meat. Last week DH made me a cold soup that I really loved - it's the same that my mom used to make for me - with boiled potatoes and spinach, with kefir, hard boiled egg, fresh cucumbers and reddish (yummy!!!). It was great when it was hot outside as this soup is eaten cold, but when the temperatures dipped closer to the end of the week, it was less fun. So DH made me borsch, but without potatoes and without meat. In stead he put red beans, and with sour cream it is just delicious!!!

Well, DH is not the only cook in the family. Sunday morning, before heading to the office, I made french toast and DH loved it, and I ended up eating 2 pieces at breakfast and took 2 more with me to the office (and borsch, of course :) ). So that was Sunday, but Saturday, DH was cooking breakfast as we had my family and MIL for breakfast. Friday night I went to visit my parents after work, and when my mom asked about breakfast on Saturday, I told her that all I wanted to do is sleep. Well when DH showed up to pick me up, he was quickly charmed by my mom to agreeing to host breakfast.

After breakfast on Saturday, me, my mom and my brother went shopping, and I splurged on buying 4 bras (the normal everyday ones, not anything pregnancy or breast feeding related). After we came back from shopping, my mom, my brother and I just hanged out at our backyard in the shade, which was amazing. It was pretty hot outside, but with in the shade it was just perfect. I got a call from my friends and they invited us to go to Yorkville to try to see some actors who are in town for TI.FF. We had an amazing time. We haven't seen any celebrities, but I've never seen so many people in Yorkville who waited for hours next to the entrances to hotels and restaurants to have a glance at celebrities. It was nice to hang around with my friends, and actually my BIL & SIL went as well and took their van so we all snuggled in in one car. Didn't get home until 2 a.m., and was hard to get up at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday to go to the office.

My uncle is flying in tomorrow, and I want to visit him to tell him the news. My sis was with our cousin on Saturday and was texting and phoning me on whether she can spill the beans to my cousin. I told her no, that I want my uncle to know first. My uncle has a special place in my heart, even though I don't see him often. I am his favourite niece and he is my only uncle (my mom has 3 sisters). I want to tell him first before any of his children know, and I so hope my sis kept her mouth shut! She told me this morning that she is perplexed as to my order of people I want to tell about my pregnancy. My question to her (which I didn't tell her there) is why the hell you care?!?!? Not your pregnancy, not your news!!! How hard is it to respect a pregnant person's wishes, especially when that person struggled for 4.5 years to get to this point. I am just getting pissed at her more and more!!! She was also giving me a hard time that we didn't invite her to go with us on Saturday night as this was the only weekend my BIL was not working. Well, it was arrange by HER best friend, and he told us that she had no one to be with the kids. They do have a live-in but she is off on the weekends, and our parents live about 30 minutes away, so she rarely goes out with us on the weekends unless the nanny is home. But, no, it somehow turned out my fault that her best friend misinterpreted what she said. I called and spoke to DH after getting text messages from my sis, and DH had to calm me down. I am so tired of her constant "naezdi" (there is just no direct translation in English that I can think of right now for this word).

The next couple of days will be very busy at the office, as my boss is treating me going away for a weekend and taking Friday off like a major holiday. I have no clue how stressful it is going to be before I go away for 1.5 weeks in November. Oh well. I guess we will deal with it once we get there. For now, I am happy to see my prego friend in the U.S. so the next update will probably be in about a week, when I'll be over 15 weeks pregnant :) as per my ticker collection, as of today, 178 days to go!!!

13 weeks and first OBGYN apt!

Last Friday (13w1d) was our first apt with OBGYN. We arrived at his office at exactly 9:30 a.m., and the reception was --- empty! Yep, at my old OBGYN (who I had before all the IF struggles) always had a reception full of people and waiting times of a few hours. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. His receptionist also turned out to be very nice we completed all the forms and confirmed all information. DH asked her about parking, as the parking meter machine was out of order, and as she told him there was another one he decided to go back and pay so as not to get the ticket. He wasn't gone for 2 minutes when the doctor called me in. He turned out to be an older gentlemen but with a good sense of humour. We went through my medical history (including how this baby was conceived). He also asked me if I have any questions, which I had (and I wrote them down too). By the time DH arrived, we finished going trough all my questions. He assured me that both BD and exercise are all good, as long as I don't do high impact (like aerobics). We then proceeded into the exam room. As we were walking towards the examination room, the doc told me that since I've been poked and probed a lot in the past few months, at this time he would only do an external exam. He touched my tummy and said that the he can feel the baby and that it is a bit bigger than 13 weeks I am. He had a student there as well, who also touched me and said that the baby feels more like 16-17 weeks. Well, I am not placing any emphasis on that opinion as he is a student. As I was thinking further after I left the office, I thought that they would ask me to pee before the apt (as that's what others told me they were asked to do) so I was pretty full, and that might have pushed the baby up more. Anyways, I am not worried. The doc also talked about my diet and said that he wants me to gain about 10 kg. But, as DH and I were discussing it later, the doc didn't take into account me being extremely overweight and Health Canada guidelines only allow me 5-9 kg. I am trying to stick with 6 kg from my weight right now (and I hope that even full term I would not be as big as I was at one point in the past 4 years). We were in and out of the OBGYN in 30 min. Which was also amazing!

As I got to the office there was of course emergencies just waiting for me, so I didn't end up leaving until after 8:30 p.m. (and that's on a Friday before the long weekend). I went to my parents house and complained that my OBGYN didn't use a doppler, so my dad got a stethoscope that they use to measure blood pressure, and started probing my tummy. Surprisingly, he found the heart beat. It sounded very distant and I am still not 100% convinced that it was it (as he gave me to listen too), but I did hear something.

Saturday morning the cleaning lady was coming (oh how we both love our cleaning lady). So we were both up pretty early cleaning the house before the cleaning lady. Yep have to tidy up the place a bit. Then we decided to go our for breakfast and the only people who agreed to come were my mom and my brother, so we had a nice family lunch. And since we arrived early the place was not really full yet. I then had my first pedicure since the spring. My SIL got me all scared telling me that a pedicure is a no-no, as I was not supposed to put my feet in hot water. I thought it only applied to the first trimester so was happy to book my pedi once we were past that deadline, but she insisted that I should not go through with it and that she didn't do hers during both of her pregnancies. She got me so paranoid that I spent a few hours on the internet, which only objections to pedi is that infection might be bad and the fumes might make you nauseous. Then I called my sis, who said that she went for pedi every few weeks through out both of her pregnancies. So, I went, and it was amazing! I told them to not make the water hot as I was pregnant (yep I said that to a stranger :) ) and they made my water barely warm, but I still enjoyed it. As it was really hot and humid outside, we spent most of the Saturday in front of a TV, but then around 7 p.m. I decided that I want to go for a walk. That was not a good idea. I don't know what the temperature was but it was very humid so even leisurely walking I was out of breath by the time we reached 1.5km mark, and we were the furthest away from our house (we were making a circle), so by the time we reached BIL & SIL's house (3km all together) we were both sweaty and red faced. It was nice to step into an a/c house. We spent the evening at their house as they had friends over who are DH's child friends as well.

Sunday we decided to sleep in as much as possible (even with me getting up to pee 2-3 times per night). We were in bed just lounging around and just joking and playing with each other, and one thing led to the other and we actually BD!!! Yes, first time in beginning of June. At the beginning it was a bit awkward as we tried to chose a position to not to hurt the baby (and squish the mommy) much and still felt a bit guilty about doing it with the baby inside, but boy was it very very pleasurable. ;) We again spent some time having a breakfast and just vegging out in front of the TV and then decided go to Lakeshore. DH took his roller-blades and went for a ride, and I just walked for an hour. Near the lake the breeze was nice and cool, and as I was walking near the water I was imagining how next summer I'll be taking our baby for a stroll here (although the driving there is a bit of a pain, I think I can manage). I love Lakeshore. I remembered that every time in the past 4 years when we would go there, I would imagine me with a stroller (as other moms around me) and this time it was very close to reality. I have a little soul inside me, which is growing and before we know it will be a part of our family. I can't wait to meet you...

The walk was very invigorating, and I was happy to go for a walk 2 days in a row. We then decided to go to the movies and as I wasn't in he mood for anything serious or action, we saw Our idiot brother, which I found was a nice movie (and funny at times) to watch before going to bed.

Monday was a holiday, so more time in bed, although no BDing this time around. I had to help my dad's friend's daughter with some docs, so by mid day DH drove me to her house. She turned out to be really nice, she had a baby 6 weeks ago. So I told her that I was pregnant and the first thing that she said to me is "You can't imagine how the baby will change your life". We did go through the topics of her pregnancy, labour and breastfeeding, and managed to do it in 15 min as DH was waiting for me in the car (he is a bit introvert and doesn't really like meeting new people). The baby was cute too.

As we drove north to meet this girl, we decided to drive West to Kleinburg a nice little town where I love to walk (plus they have a pretty big park). The problem was that it was freaking freezing (I bet not more than 15C) plus we were supposed to get to my SIL's house as it was her mom's birthday. We did have a nice stroll through the main street and then back to the car to get warm with a stop at Star.bucks for me to pee :). At least I got in 30 min of walking on Monday too. The bbq at SIL's house was uneventful and it being a night before going back to work we went home pretty early.

Tuesday, the boss was back, so no more hardly working for me. So both Tuesday and today were very busy days at the office. The good think is that my nausea is subsiding (or so I thought) although today (Wednesday) it has been pretty bad. My bbs hurt too, plus everything else down there. I think the baby is shuffling things around to extend his/her home as I have pains in my uterus, ovaries and kidneys as well as lower back. Oh well, as long as the baby is healthy and growing.

Even with all my "padding" I can feel the hard places on my lower tummy where the baby is. The girl at my work (who I don't really like) telling me every day that I am starting to show (and all i want to do is just hit her hard so she leaves me alone). Anyways, I can also feel the fullness in my lower tummy which I think is my uterus, placenta and the baby.

My sis bought me a stretch cream that she used. So I used it for the first time after the shower on Sunday, and omg it stinks!!! I don't like the smell, and DH doesn't like the smell, but I am not about to throw out $40 worth of product. So I am sticking with it until it is done and then asking DH to order me a different one on line, which my prego friend recommended. I just talked to her and she just got that different cream herself and says that to her that cream doesn't smell bad. Well, I'll be visiting her next week and will smell it for myself first before ordering it. The other good thing, is that she told me that my be.lla bands have arrived! Yei!!! I can't wait to try them on. I have to unbutton my fat pants in the afternoon, so I am looking forward to switching to my regular pants with the band.

Tomorrow will be 14 weeks, and I just want the time to hurry up just a bit, so I could start feeling the baby move! I guess I should enjoy each step of the pregnancy, and the best part is that the anxiety about this pregnancy is almost gone (not completely, but almost gone), with a great help from my due date buddies at ivf(dot)ca. I just love love love that site. It was an amazing form of support during the past year of all the heavy duty treatments and now when all of us post-ivfers have tons of insecurities about our pregnancies. Anyways, better get to bed, tomorrow is another long day at the office.
